Epidendrum, taken in the board sense, is one of the largest genera of the Orchidaceae. With a range extending from North Carolina to the Argentine Republic it is the most widely distributed group of epiphytic orchids in the Western Hemisphere and being admirable adapted to diverse environmental conditions is usually represented in every large collection of plants received from tropical America.
